About Montgomery

Montgomery ChicagoYou have chosen to reside in one of Chicago’s most pleasant districts. The Montgomery is located in River North. Often referred to as the Chicago version of Manhattan’s trendy SoHo you are about to become a part of the fastest developing areas North of the Chicago Loop. River North claims to be the dining and entertainment center with brewpubs and restaurants on nearly every block. From a historical perspective, River North has had many faces over the years. In the 1890’s, after railroad tracks were laid along the Chicago River’s north bank, industry moved in. Soon, the area became known as “Smokey Hollow”. After the Second World War, manufacturing declined and factories closed or were converted into warehouses. By the mid 1980’s, it was an urban wasteland with many neglected and abandoned buildings. Then the revival began. Great old buildings were transformed into brand new galleries, restaurants, and offices and a new way was paved for development. The Montgomery is a part of that vibrant streetscape. River North is an offshoot of the hustle and bustle of the Loop; River North houses a chic district of art galleries that ranks second only to New York's Soho area. Trendy new restaurants and clubs dot the surrounding streets.
